Summer Update 7/2/10

SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
FRIDAY, JULY 2, 2010

We hope that all of you are having a great summer so far!  We are working hard to prepare for the upcoming school year.  I will post another blog in the next few weeks with more updates.  Please be sure to get some rest and enjoy your family and friends.  Here are a few updates for you...

1.  Please continue to keep Chris Hancock in your thoughts.  She has not had surgery and is continuing to see several doctors.  She is feeling very good and is in good spirits.  We hope that she gets some resolution to her health issue.

2.  Congratulations to Kim Gregg!  She is the proud grandparent of a baby boy!  He was born on June 30 at 12:56.  He weighed 7lbs, 7 oz, and was 20.5 in. long.  Enjoy your new addition Kim!

3.  Deb Neal and I presented at the Schools to Watch conference in Washington, DC.  Our presentation was quite successful.  Thanks to Deb for preparing the presentation!

4.  Our custodians are doing a magnificent job in getting our school ready for next year.  They are right on schedule and most of the rooms look fabulous!  If you plan to come in over the summer, please call or visit the main office first.  We must make sure that your room is ready for you ahead of time.

4.  The new district and school websites are up and running.  Thanks to Jeff Nichols for all of his hard work.  Our website is off to a great start!  At the beginning of the school year, you will receive some instructions for your new website.  Most of you have transferred your old website information over, but there are new requirements from the school system on what needs to be on your website.  Jeff and I will make sure that you are aware of those expectations.

5.  We are in the process of hiring new teachers.  This week we interviewed and hired two individuals for our 8th grade Science and 7th grade Math positions.   Both of these additions are strong teachers who are excited about being part of the SEMS family.  We are still on hold with our 6th grade Science position by Human Resources.  We will be interviewing for the 7th grade Math/Science position on Tuesday, July 13, all day.  If you are interested in being part of that committee, please call and let Susie know. She will give you the details.
