Weekly Updates 5/3/12

SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
THURSDAY, MAY 4, 2012

1. Congratulations to Angela Cowell, one of our social workers.  She gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Monday.  We wish you and the baby good luck!

2. Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week.  The PTSA will provide breakfast for all staff members on Friday, May 11.  In addition, the Hospitality Committee will offer a dessert buffet during lunches that Friday.  Thanks to both groups for supporting our staff! Thanks to all of our staff members for being such dedicated educators.  Thank you for all that you do each day for our children.

3. For those certified staff who did not complete all 18 hours of required Common Core/Essential Standards training this year:  You must attend the Summer Institute that WSFCS is offered to get the remainder of your hours.  They are planning for this training to take place during the week of July 16.  Remember that this is a requirement for your contract - if you do not gain the 18 hours of credit, your contract will be denied for next school year.

4. Homebase teachers:  If you receive voucher slips in your mailboxes from the cafeteria, please be sure to give those slips to those students listed.  Those slips should not be returned to the cafeteria.  Once the student gets the slip, they are to turn it in when they go to lunch on that day.

5. For your calendar:  June 7 is the last day of school.  On June 8, we will hold our annual "Staff Stuffing Party" and we plan to have PTSA provide lunch for staff members on this day.  June 8 will be a required RS workday.  June 11,12, and 13 are also teacher workdays - if you have annual leave and wish to take any of those three days off, you may do so.

6. Parent surveys are on their way to us.  Each homebase teacher will be given a stack for Wednesday folders. We will collect any completed parent surveys in the main office to send back to WSFCS.  Parents will also be given an option for an online survey.  Thank goodness this is one survey that you will not have to fool with!

7. For your planning purposes, the first day back for teachers next school year will be August 20.  There will only be one open house day for all three grade levels and as of right now, there will only be on RC training day.  The rest will be workdays here at school.  This is good news!

8. We will have a staff meeting on Monday.  Topics include:  EOG counting 20% of students' grades, allotment updates, testing reminders, and updated calendar for May/June. We are working to finalize the daily calendar that you were given last week at your EOG training session.  Final copies will be ready by the staff meeting.

9. Please remember to check the online calendar regularly.  There are lots of activities coming up! To access, there is a Calendar tab on the lower left side of your email inbox.  Click on Calendar, then on the left menu click on the SEMS Staff School Calendar to access.  You can view this calendar daily, weekly, or monthly.

Happy Birthday!
