SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
SUMMER UPDATE #1
JUNE 29, 2012
I hope that everyone is having a great summer so far! We miss you already! Here are a few updates for you as your summer begins...
1. Our painters are almost finished with the classroom touch-ups. The roofing project is about to begin. Our custodians have done a fantastic job so far and are ahead of schedule right now.
2. It is hiring season! We have been very, very busy conducting interviews and working on finding quality educators to add to our staff. Here are our hires so far: Jamie Sherman (Guidance Counselor), Cynthia Robertson (ESL TA), Jeremy Shearer (8th SS), Deborah Wallace-Smith (8th Sci), Latoya Thomas (part-time PE), Jennifer Love (Art), Samantha Hager (part-time Art), Laura Booth (part-time Spanish), Katy Carlson (French), Carrie Burch (6th Math). I hope that I remembered everyone (my apologies if I did not)! In addition, we are working on four more positions right now, so stay tuned.
3. Please remember that the CCES make-up training sessions will take place in mid-July. Those who need to make up a training session have already been alerted. Please be sure to complete this process to complete your requirements for your contract renewal.
4. The first day back for teachers will be Monday, August 20. We will open the doors for staff on Monday, August 13, for those who would like to get a head start. Open House and 6th grade Orientation for all students will take place on Tuesday, August 21. In addition, we will have a new teacher orientation offered during the week of August 13 for those interested. Detailed information will be sent to all staff members by late July.
5. The state budget is close to being approved. If Governor Perdue approves the budget, then WSFCS employees are expected to get a 1.2% raise. This is great news and I hope that it passes!
Please stay tuned for more updates throughout the summer. Enjoy your friends and family and get some well-deserved rest! Take care.
