Weekly Update 12/5/13

SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2013

1. Please welcome Mrs. Cagle. She is filling in for Collette Holbert while she is out on medical leave. Mrs. Cagle will be assisting Mrs. Turner in the Media Center for the month of December. Welcome!

2. The Music winter concerts are coming up:  Monday, Dec. 16 (Orchestra); Tuesday, Dec. 17 (Chorus); Thursday, Dec. 19 (Band).  All concerts will be held at Atkins HS.  Any certified staff who did not work a grade level social in the fall, then you are required to work one of the concerts.  Sign-ups are posted in the staff workroom.

3. Core and Encore paper progress reports will go home on Dec. 4and Dec. 18.

4. The expectation/requirement from the district for your subject area professional development sessions that are scheduled periodically after school is that each grade level subject area has one representative at each meeting. For example, for each 7th grade Math afterschool session this year, a minimum of one 7th grade Math teacher is expected to attend. Your grade level subject area may arrange this any way that you wish.

5. PTSA order forms for apparel have been placed in your mailboxes. They are selling short-sleeve shirts, long-sleeve shirts, and hoodies. They come in several color choices as well as two different logos. Show your Jaguar pride! All order forms are due by December 10.

6. Please remember to update your grades in Powerschool weekly. This is the district requirement/policy. In addition, please be sure to make personal contact with any parents/guardians of students who have an F or if their letter grade drops by two or more.

7. There have been some questions recently over grading procedures. I encourage all of you review the "Grading Procedures" section of your staff handbook. It is especially important to note that students are not to receive a grade for turning in a signed progress report or for getting their agenda signed by a parent. The parent is more responsible for this than the student (refer to item #4 in this section of the staff handbook).  There is also information about extra credit and students bringing supplies to the classroom.

8. The PTSA will be selling Holiday Candygrams during lunches on December 12, 13, 16, and 17. Students can pay $1.00 for each and have a candygram delivered to someone on Friday, December 20.

9. We have several fundraiser events taking place in December (see calendar below). We will email details as well as a master list of students as soon as the fundraiser information is finalized.

10. Language Arts teachers: Please remember that your spelling bee winners are due to Mrs. Gardner by December 18.

11. Thanks to our Hospitality Committee. They will be serving a holiday lunch for hospitality members on December 17. Also, thanks to our PTSA. They will be serving breakfast for the staff on Friday, December 20.
