Weekly Update 6-3-10

SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
JUNE 3, 2010

1.  Thanks for a great week of retesting.  Once we worked out the small issues, things went smooth.  Thank you for all of your assistance and flexibility.

2.  Retest scores are not available yet.  We will share those once we have the results.  Algebra and Integrated Math scores overall were wonderful!  We have much to celebrate.  Thanks to the 8th grade math teachers for all of your extra hard work!

3.  Grades are due on Tuesday, June 8, by 4:00pm to Sandy Derrah.  Please make sure your grades are on time so that we can have all paperwork prepared for the stuffing party on that Friday. Also, please be sure follow all directions for posting end of year grades. 

4.  All of you should have the End-of-Year Check Out Sheet.  We will go over details for end of year procedures at Monday's staff meeting.

5.  Teams going on upcoming field trips:  In order to prevent any confusion about who can/cannot go on your field trip, you will need to contact parents of any students that are not eligible to go so that the parent is clearly aware of the circumstance.  That will help to avoid any issues on the day of your trip.  Remember, you certainly don't want any last minute surprises!  Refunds for trips will be given after the field trip. 

6. 8th grade celebration is on Wednesday, June 9. We will not have encore classes on this day. Mrs. Cole is finalizing the supervision details so that all areas are covered.  8th grade teachers:  Mrs. Cole will meet with at 8:35 in Draughn's room briefly on Monday to go over the celebration schedule.  Encore teachers:  Mrs. Cole will meet with you briefly at 12:00 in Hatch's room on Mondayto review coverage on this day.  6th and 7th grade teachers that are on campus on this day:  You will receive a break by another staff member. That staff member will get with you to coordinate that break time.  We will also alter the lunch schedule that day for 6th and 7th on campus.  Lunch schedule:

Elkins/Guffey:  10:00 - 10:30  in Cafeteria
Thorne/Worrell:  10:05 - 10:35 in Cafeteria
Coston/Pierce:  10:10 - 10:40 in Cafeteria
Eisbacher/Hairston/Sherman:  10:30 - 11:00 in Cafeteria
Leftover 7th grade teacher:  10:35 - 11:05 in Cafeteria

7.  Yearbooks will be distributed on Monday, June 7.  Jeff Nichols and Laura Horn will set up outside the Media Center to distribute.  They will come to your room to get those students who have purchased and return them back to your classroom as quickly as possible.  Please remind your students that once they receive their yearbooks, it is their responsibility to take care of it and put it away in a secure location when necessary. 

8.  Rumor has it that McDonald's may be offering free breakfast for educators on Wednesday, June 9.  If you show your school ID between 6:00 - 10:30, you receive a free breakfast sandwich and coffee.  Again, that is not confirmed information - it's just what I have heard.

9.  On Tuesday, June 8, we will have Operation Beautiful day here at SEMS.  We have a group of SEMS students who are sponsoring this event.  No further details will be given at this time, but it's sure to put smiles on your faces.  This will not disrupt your classes on Tuesday.

10.  If you haven't already done so, please indicate your intentions of whether or not you will work on Tuesday, June 15.  The staff sheet is posted in the workroom.

     Tuesday, June 8 - Operation Beautiful day
     Wednesday, June 9 - 8th celebration, 7th grade zoo trip, some 6th on field trip
     Friday, June 11 - Stuffing party, PTSA Luncheon
     Monday, June 14 - RC Staff Development Day
     Tuesday, June 15 - RS Day, can take annual leave, must indicate on staff sheet in workroom
