Weekly Update 10/27/10

SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2010

Thanks to all of you for your hard work over the first quarter.  Please have a safe weekend and a Happy Halloween!  Take time to enjoy your family and friends.

1. Thanks to Summit Church for cleaning our campus last weekend.  We appreciate their help!

2. United Way update:  So far, 26 individuals have contributed to the campaign.  Right now, SEMS is at 25% of our school contribution goal.  Let's make it happen!

3. October 29 is a teacher workday. You may take annual leave if you wish. A staff sign-up sheet is posted in the workroom for you to indicate your plans for this day. You may choose to work, choose to take an annual day, or choose to attend the Educator Symposium. The building will be open from 7:00am - 4:00pm. Certified staff must put in a minimum of 7 hours, and classified staff must put in their normal 8 hour day. If you plan to take an annual leave day or to be at the symposium, you must have your grades/verifications turned in to Sandy Derrah and verified beforehand. Grades are due by 3:00pm on October 29 (Please see earlier email regarding grades, comments, etc).

4. Monday, November 1 - We will have a short training for testing proctors. This is for all staff members and Deb Neal is required to do this by the Accountability Dept.

5. Wednesday, November 3 - Report cards go out!  All students will switch back to their homebases at 1:50pm to receive their report cards.  Please do not hand them out before this time.

6. Friday, November 5, we will kickoff our school fundraiser.  We will have grade level assemblies on this day for the kickoff.  Information has been placed in your mailboxes and an email sent to you as well.  Please review this information, as it affects all teachers.

7. Lisa Turner has lots of mini-lessons, resources, and video clips related to bullying. These activities are perfect for short periods of time after testing or if you finish a lesson early and have a few minutes available. Several teams have already taken Lisa up on her offer of these resources. We encourage the rest of you to take advantage of this. Bullying prevention is one of our School Improvement goals for the next two years.

8.  There have been lots of questions regarding use of substitute teachers once they come into the building for the day.  If a substitute is in the building, please do not make arrangements with them to cover an activity for you during that school day.  If they have open periods, we assign them to other places throughout the building that need coverage. If you are in need of assistance during the school day and need coverage for a class, please contact us in the main office to let us know of your emergency and we will help to take care of it.

Happy Birthday!
