SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
THURSDAY, JANUARY 20
1. Thank you for coming to the budget staff meeting yesterday. I know that it was difficult to hear some of the possibilities for next year. But all we do is move forward from here together. We will make it work. Don't forget about our students. They are the reason that we are in this business.
2. As of now, the following dates are the make-up student days for the snow days: February 21, April 25, June 10, June 13, and June 14.
3. Many of you have asked about how to get make-up quarter testing in next week for students who were absent. Since this has been a very mixed up week with the snow days, we will allow teams to use the Wednesday tutoring period to make up their test if necessary. If you need to do this, you must clear it with the student's encore teacher first - by Tuesday at the absolute latest. If you do not need to do quarter testing make-ups, then you can proceed with your regular Wednesday tutoring group. We will start new groups the following week for February.
4. If you need to make any grade changes after you turn in your grades, you must fill out a grade change form and bring it to me to approve. No changes will be made without approval. If you need a form, they will be available in the guidance office or in Cindy Wilkes' office.
5. Homebase teachers, please remember that your daily student attendance is due by 9:00am each morning.
6. The School Improvement Team met on Tuesday. We had several productive discussions regarding some concerns. One issue is the morning tardies to school. It was decided that we will modify the morning traffic flow to hopefully get more students in the building at a time as the traffic is moving in groups. I will send out more information to pass along to your students regarding the changes in the next week or so. We must meet with staff members on duty first to put the process in place.
The team also discussed the issues with hallway behavior. The biggest complaints were the noise levels during class changes and to and from lunch, dismissal patterns, and inconsistencies with how staff members are addressing these issues. The team has decided to develop a set of expectations for students, staff members, and administrators. We will share this information with you at the February staff meeting and will then roll it out with the students that week.
7. The PTSA Fundraiser will begin on February 4. There is some information going home with students in their Wednesday folders soon. We will forward you more details on the sale. They will be selling chocolate again this year. The kickoff assemblies will take place on February 4. We will also forward specific times to you very soon. More than likely, we will use the same format as the assemblies for our fundraiser in the fall.
8. The SEMS Spring Arts Festival is set for the evening of Tuesday, March 15. We will have the PTSA Spring Book Fair, music performances, art displays, visiting artists, arts and crafts fair, face painting, etc. We will soon have a meeting with anyone interested in organizing and even being a part in the festival.
9. It is time to update your rosters on your emergency clipboards. Please print a new copy of your rosters and post them on the clipboard by February 4.
