HAPPY NEW YEAR!
1. Welcome back! I hope that you all had a restful holiday break. I do hope that the weather will cooperate with us this month so that we don't have many days to make up.
2. Please welcome Samantha Hager to the staff. She has replaced Kathy Albertelli, who retired in December. Samantha will be with us for the remainder of this school year. In addition, please welcome Kathy Pierce as a temporary replacement for Leigh Ann Shelor. Kathy will be with us until an EC teacher has been hired.
3. Kay Hoag will not return to us for the remainder of this school year due to her health concerns. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
4. Congratulations to David Brown! He has been named the December Officer of the Month with the Kernersville Police Department. Thanks for your hard work and what you do for our students!
5. We will have a staff meeting on Monday at 2:15pm. Immediately following the meeting, there will be a short meeting of the UNCG cooperating teachers with Rita Jennings in the Media Center.
6. We will have quarter testing on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and Wednesday, Jan. 18. We will run a modified schedule on both of these dates due to the high number of pull-outs for testing. Deb Neal will be giving you more details.
7. Good news! There will be NO tutoring during the week of January 9 and the week of January 16 since it is the last week of the quarter! In other words, Thursday, January 5 is the last day of tutoring for the quarter. We will resume the second round of tutoring during the week of January 24. Deb Neal will get your new tutoring lists to all teachers. For the third quarter, we will do tutoring during 2nd, 4th, and 6th periods.
8. A-B Schedule Change! Due to the high school exam schedule in January, there have been two changes in the A-B day encore schedule. All schools are to follow this schedule:
Thursday, Jan. 12 - A day
Friday, Jan. 13 - A day
Monday, Jan. 16 - Holiday
Tuesday, Jan. 17 - A day (Quarter testing - modified schedule)
Wednesday, Jan. 18 - B day (Quarter testing - modified schedule)
Thursday, Jan. 19 - B day
Friday, Jan. 20 - B day
9. The Athletic Department will sponsor several grade level socials in January. The dates are as follows:
Jan. 6 - 6th grade social
Jan. 13 - 7th grade social
Jan. 20 - 8th grade social
10. There will be a School Improvement Team meeting on Tuesday, January 17, at 2:15pm.
11. Update on painting: I met with the painters during the holiday break. Their plans have changed slightly for our school. I will share details at our staff meeting.
12. GRADES DUE: Grades for the second quarter will be due by Friday, January 20, by 4:00pm. Please turn in your verification sheets to Sandy Derrah by this time. Please remember that the calendar laws changed and the county no longer must have a teacher workday at the end of each quarter to enter grades. On Monday, January 23, all teachers will have Common Core/Essential Standards training since it is an Rc day. Report cards must go out to students on January 25.
13. Monday, January 23, is an Rc day. All teachers and most support staff will have Common Core/Essential Standards training. Please be sure to register for your training ahead of time.
14. We have received the individual teacher EVAAS reports from last year's testing. I will share these with you individually over the next few weeks.
15. We are still planning to move forward with our new paper progress report plan starting the second semester. We will review details with you soon after our January SIT meeting. Please remember that the School Board policy indicates that your grades be updated weekly in NCWISE and parents watch this very closely. So be sure to update your grades according to this. During the second semester, paper progress reports will go out on February 29 and May 16. Core paper progress reports for the current quarter will still go out as planned on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
16. East Forsyth High School is looking to place several teacher cadets with us for a 5 week period. They are seniors in high schools in an Honors program who are wishing to become teachers. They would be with you every A day until 10:00am. If you are interested in having one of the cadets, please let me know by January 17. I will submit your name to the sponsor for possible placement.
