SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL

1.  Please wish Jordan Tucker the best of luck.  Friday will be his last day with us.  Good luck on your new opportunity back home!

2. A current 7th grade student, Christian Calderon, has been diagnosed with a mild form of Leukemia and is in Brenner's Hospital.  As of now, he is expected to be there at least a week, if not longer.  They are predicting that he will be out of school a minimum of 4 weeks. The family has high spirits for a full recovery.  The Outbacks team (Mabry, Guffey, and Worrell) are keeping in contact with the family as well.  They are accepting visitors for Christian, as long as the visitors are healthy.  Please keep the Calderon family in your thoughts and prayers.  We will keep you posted on his progress. 

3. We have completed the Book Fair plan.  It was emailed to all staff members earlier.  Language Arts teachers, please be sure to be on time with your preview groups at your specified times and date.  All instructions were included in the email.  Only LA classes will be affected. We plan to show the Book Fair preview CD one or two mornings during homebase.  We will let you know the times.  

4. March Madness will take place on Friday, March 9, from 2:00-4:00.  Students must turn in their $5.00 and permission slip to Coach Pizzino or Coach Griffin in order to attend.  Only 350 tickets will be sold!  There will be a faculty-student basketball game as well as some competitions for students to participate in.

5. An Apple a Day......Our apple tree is growing slowly!  Please thank a staff member for a job well done - it could be a good deed, assistance with a staff or student member, or just to recognize their commitment to the school.  Our goal is to fill the main office with apple notes.

6. Let's get that money in for the school fundraiser!  Right now 6th grade is in the lead.  Homebase teachers, please remember that you can earn some cash if your homebase meets their fundraiser goal!  Please continue to encourage your students to participate and get their money and order forms turned in.

7. We have had a smooth transition to the new email system.  Please remember to respond to emails in a timely manner.  We will share a few more features with you at Monday's staff meeting. All staff members received an email invitation to join the SEMS Staff Calendar.  This is important for you to view this calendar - we will use this one from now on.  It gives you easy, easy access to all events on the calendar.

8. We will have a staff meeting on Monday.  Topics include: Fire Marshall report, accessing online calendars, Standard 6 of the evaluation instrument, and our March Literacy spotlight.

9. Vertical planning meetings have been scheduled for Monday, March 19, at 2:15pm.  Locations have not yet been determined.

10. Please remember that quarter testing will take place the week of March 26.  We plan to structure two of these days as mock EOG-style sessions with altered schedules.  Deb Neal and I will get a schedule to you soon.
