Weekly Update 3/11/15

SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 2015

1. Please keep our staff members in your thoughts and prayers. Nick Pizzino's wife's grandmother passed away this week.  Jane Trace continues to recover from health issues with kidney stones.  We hope that Jane will return very soon back to school. In addition, Melissa Futrell broke her foot and has just now returned back to work. We are thinking of you all!

2. Congratulations to the following individuals.  They are our winners for the spirit week door decorating contest. Congrats to Mrs. Eisbacher, Ms. McCraw, Ms. J. Martin, Mrs. Hatch, and and Mrs. Raya.  They are the winners for each category/group. The homebases listed will receive a free donut breakfast compliments of the administration. The staff members listed will also receive breakfast.  Our overall grand prize winner, based on creativity, school spirit, student involvement, and originality is Ms. McCraw.  She will receive a gift card from the administration. Thanks to all of our staff members who participated in this event. We will forward pictures of some of our doors soon. 

3. Our AP interview committee will be conducting AP interviews early next week. We hope to secure the best candidate possible to ensure a smooth transition to our new AP.  

4. Encore teachers involved in the ASW process:  Please get your objectives selected and finalized as soon as possible. Please see earlier email from me with details on completing these steps correctly.

5. Not many of us were able to give Karen Cole a proper goodbye last week due to the weather. We are working on a day soon for her to come in, enjoy lunch, and have staff members pop in to visit.  We will let you know once that date has been confirmed. 

6. The grade level socials are still taking place on the make up dates listed on your revised March calendar. The staff sign ups are posted in the staff workroom. If you are interested in trade out time, please consult this sheet.

7. The Rising 6th Grade Open House will now take place on Monday, March 16, from 6:00 - 7:30pm.  We ask that all staff present be ready to go at 5:45pm and in professional dress. 

8. Quarter test details: We have completed the upcoming quarter test schedule.  We can confirm the following dates:  March 19 - 8th Grade Math and Math I tests; March 23 - 8th Reading, 7th Reading, and 6th Math tests; March 24 - 7th Math, 6th Reading, and 8th Science.  All staff members received a full detailed schedule at Monday's staff meeting.  If you still need a copy, there are extras in my mailbox outside my door (yellow packet).

9. The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) will take place during the first week back from Spring Break. Random second period classes will be selected by the district to complete this student survey.  If/when selected, I will notify affected teachers directly to prepare for this survey.

10. We are trying to get confirmation on due dates for 3rd quarter grades and if the report card distribution can be pushed back to later in April.  I will confirm with all teachers once I have those answers for you.

11. WSFCS will conduct a summer Collaborative Learning Conference.  It will take place at Walkertown HS on August 12 and 13.  The conference will have breakout sessions in regards to struggling students and how to help them be more successful in the classroom. If you are interested in presenting at this conference, please let me know. I will submit your name to the district. If you'd like to attend, please stay tuned for more info.
