Weekly Update 2/10/11

SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2011

1. The SEMS Spring Arts Festival is set for the evening of Tuesday, March 15. We will have the PTSA Spring Book Fair, music performances, art displays, visiting artists, arts and crafts fair, face painting, etc. We will have an interest meeting with anyone wanting to organize or participate on Monday, Feb. 14, at 2:15pm.

2. Please be sure to consider contributing to the Arts Council.  The money donated goes to our arts programs in the county.  To donate, visit the WSFCS homepage, click on the Arts Council information on the left side, fill out the information, print and then give to Albertelli or Ring.

3. The rising 6th grade Open House will take place on Thursday, February 17, from 6:00 - 7:15pm. The snow date will be Monday, February 21.  All 6th grade and encore teachers are required to attend.  This will fulfill the evening event requirement for these teachers.
4. Several of you have asked about contacting Prudence Brooks.  I have included her contact information should you want to see how she is doing.  Address: 1715 Indian Springs Dr. Conover NC 28613. Phone number: 828-302-7546.

5. We have had quite a few issues lately with new students showing up to the wrong class and this is isn't caught for weeks at a time.  If a new student shows up to your classroom, please check their schedule to ensure that they are enrolled in your class.  They should either have an NCWISE schedule or a handwritten schedule from the Guidance Office.  If the student does not have either, then please contact the Guidance Office to double check on their status.

6. The new State Employees Credit Union has just opened up on Route 66.  We are looking to form a partnership with them, especially since several of our parents work there.  They do have some opportunities for our students.  In addition, they are looking to form an advisory board.  Their board meets quarterly to talk about what services they offer and what the community would like for them to offer.  The meeting is followed by a dinner, compliments of the credit union.  What a great deal!  If you are interested in being on the board, please let me know.  I will forward you the contact information.

7. The Winston-Salem Foundation is looking for candidates for this year's Sam and Anne Booke Grant.  Recipients can receive up to $1,500. This money is specifically for staff development for that individual.  Rachel Holmes received this award last year and can testify to this honor.  If you are interested in applying, which we highly recommend, then please go to the WS Foundation website to the grant section for the form.  The deadline to apply is March 4.

8. If you are interested in forming a team or participating in this year's Race for the Cure, please see Jane Trace. This is a wonderful event for a great cause!

9. The Kernersville Cup will take place on Tuesday, February 22, at East Forsyth High School against Kernersville Middle. The 8th grade girls will play at 6pm followed by the boys at 7pm. Come out and show your support!

10.  We have received some updated information regarding scheduling options for next school year.  It is some potential good news.  I will update you in a separate email explaining those options.
