1. Congratulations to Betsy Smith. She will be retiring on May 31!
2. We'd like to welcome Dorris Shumate to our staff. She has filled Lisa Horwath's EC Assistant position. Please welcome her when you see her. Also, Thomas Norwood will serve as the long-term sub for Prudence's ESL position. He will start on March 1.
3. Congratulations to Edgar Ortiz. He is getting married on March 26!
4. Brian Griffin will have lung surgery next Thursday, Feb. 24. He will be out starting on Tuesday. He is expected to be out for 3-6 weeks. Please keep Brian in your thoughts and prayers.

6. The SEMS Spring Arts Festival is set for the evening of Tuesday, March 15. We will have the PTSA Spring Book Fair, music performances, art displays, visiting artists, arts and crafts fair, face painting, etc. Flyers will go out next week if any of your are interested in participating or having an arts and crafts booth.
7. Please be sure to consider contributing to the Arts Council. The money donated goes to our arts programs in the county. To donate, visit the WSFCS homepage, click on the Arts Council information on the left side, fill out the information, print and then give to Albertelli or Ring.
8. The Winston-Salem Foundation is looking for candidates for this year's Sam and Anne Booke Grant. Recipients can receive up to $1,500. This money is specifically for staff development for that individual. Rachel Holmes received this award last year and can testify to this honor. If you are interested in applying, which we highly recommend, then please go to the WS Foundation website to the grant section for the form. The deadline to apply is March 4.
9. If you are interested in forming a team or participating in this year's Race for the Cure, please see Jane Trace. This is a wonderful event for a great cause!
10. Please see earlier email regarding Spirit Week instructions. Please review those instructions with your students.
11. We are partnering with the Foundation for Wellness Professionals to treat the staff on February 28 and March 1. On these dates, the foundation will be coming to give FREE 15-minute chair massages to any staff members who are interested. We will post a sign-up sheet next week if you'd like to treat yourself.
12. If you are interested in sponsoring a robotics team, let me know. There may be an opportunity with the WS Chamber of Commerce.
13. The dates on our calendar are filling up very fast. If you plan to take a field trip this spring, you will need to schedule that as quickly as possible. Please remember to check with Sandy Derrah regarding bus availability with your buses and then give me a field trip approval sheet. Dates to avoid for field trips: March 21 - 24 (mock EOG-style quarter testing) and May 2 - 27 (blackout dates for EOG prep, testing, and red zone). Please let us know if you have questions.
14. The American Heart Association will be offering CPR classes. We would like for many of you to take this course. The school will pay the fee for you! A separate email will be sent with these details today.
15. The yearbook needs to take club pictures next Thursday, Feb. 24. We will do these first thing in the morning. Our goal is to get these pictures taken as quickly as possible with minimal disruption. We will let you know the details early next week.
16. We will have an EC Development Meeting on Monday, Feb. 21, at 2:15 in the Media Center.
