Weekly Update 4/23/15

SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 2015

1. Congratulations to Irma Jones, who will be retiring April 30.  We sincerely appreciate her service to our students and staff. Irma, we wish you well in your new adventure! 

2. An email with student NJHS application procedures is coming your way!  There are new application procedures that we ask you to review with your students.  The deadline to submit NJHS applications is May 4. 

3. The drafts of the May and June calendars have been sent to all staff for review. Please note that this is in DRAFT form, especially the testing dates. Final drafts will be out very soon. One adjustment that has already been made - the All A celebrations had to be moved to May 13. 

4. Please celebrate and post your HB students who earned Honor Roll and Straight A's on their report cards for the 3rd quarter. The date for the 3rd Quarter All A's celebrations has been changed from May 14 to May 13 due to a scheduling conflict. 

5. If you have any quarter grade changes that need to be made, please fill out a grade change form and turn in to my mailbox.  I will review, approve, and then give to Cindy Wilkes to make the appropriate changes.  Please make sure that ALL information is completed on this form. 

6. Soon all students will receive a proctor letter to go home to families in Wednesday folders. Please review this with your students.  We do ask that you help us to give the kids an incentive to return these sheets, even if a parent or family member is unable to help us out with proctoring. There is a space on the form for the parent to indicate if they are not available to help.  But we are asking for your help in promoting the securing of as many proctors as possible for the testing window. Remember that the more proctors we have, the less stress on our own staff!
7. EVAAS roster verification and instructions have been forwarded to all staff. Core and EC teachers, please review and make plans to attend an April 30 help session. 

8. The staff questionnaire for next school year will be forwarded to all staff members very soon. This will be your opportunity to give us input on your current teaching assignment as well as any concerns we need to be aware of as we plan for next school year. 

9. The last day for students will be Friday, June 12.  The last teacher workday on the calendar is now Monday, June 22.  The Monday, June 15 workday is protected, meaning it is required for all staff. We will have our final staff meeting and meal provided by PTSA on that day. In addition, we are working on plans to have our retirement party on June 15 to celebrate all of our retirees this year. 

10. WSFCS will conduct a summer Collaborative Learning Conference.  It will take place at Walkertown HS on August 12 and 13.  The conference will have breakout sessions in regards to struggling students and how to help them be more successful in the classroom. If you are interested in presenting at this conference, please let me know. I will submit your name to the district. If you'd like to attend, please stay tuned for more info.
