SOUTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL
THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 2015
1. Next week is Educator Appreciation Week! I'd like to thank all of you for your perseverance and flexibility throughout this school year. We couldn't do it without you! You will receive several treats next week. The PTSA will be delivering a free lunch from PDQ restaurant on Tuesday. It will be a chicken tender lunch for all staff members, so please enjoy. In addition, the Hospitality will be serving a light breakfast for staff on Thursday morning.
2. Please remind your students that the deadline to submit NJHS applications is
May 4.
3. We will have a staff meeting on Monday, May 4. This is a lengthy staff meeting and will take the full time, so please plan for that. Topics include: UNCG grant discussion with UNCG staff, May/June calendars, allotment updates, testing code of ethics, 8th ceremony/awards details, etc.
4. The updated May and June calendars have been sent to all staff members along with the May 5 and 6 modified schedules. In addition, a yellow copy has been placed in your mailboxes. Please be on time for your training sessions.
5. Remaining events still needing to be schedule for May/June include the Crosby Scholar celebrations (30 minutes per grade level) and the 8th grade EC transition meetings. For these meetings, it is important for 8th, encore, and EC teachers to understand that these meetings are required during this time period as part of the students' IEP. Mrs. Douglas is making every effort to "spread the wealth" with the teachers required to be in these meetings. We truly appreciate her hard work to make these things happen in order for us to remain compliant. I appreciate your patience and understanding.
6. Please celebrate and post your HB students who earned Honor Roll and Straight A's on their report cards for the 3rd quarter. The date for the 3rd Quarter All A's celebrations has been changed from May 14 to May 13 due to a scheduling conflict.
7. Staff sign ups for concerts and testing party trade out time have now been posted in the staff workroom. Please see the email from today with details about signing up. If you are a certified teacher and you did not work the rising 6th open house, then you will need to sign up to work a concert. In addition, there are trade out time opportunities for both the concerts and the upcoming testing parties.
8. All students have received a proctor letter to go home to families in Wednesday folders. Please review this with your students. We do ask that you help us to give the kids an incentive to return these sheets, even if a parent or family member is unable to help us out with proctoring. There is a space on the form for the parent to indicate if they are not available to help. But we are asking for your help in promoting the securing of as many proctors as possible for the testing window. Remember that the more proctors we have, the less stress on our own staff!
9. The last day for students will be Friday, June 12. The last teacher workday on the calendar is now Monday, June 22. The Monday, June 15 workday is protected, meaning it is required for all staff. We will have our final staff meeting and meal provided by PTSA on that day. In addition, we are working on plans to have our retirement party on June 15 to celebrate all of our retirees this year.
